Washington House Bill 1210: Shayan’s Law for Insurance Coverage of Autism Treatments

January 15, 2009 "Shayan's Law" (House Bill 1210, Senate Bill 5203) requires private health insurance companies to provide coverage for the diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorder. Coverage will be provided to individuals under the age of 21. The maximum annual benefit is $50,000. Treatments must be prescribed, provided, or ordered for an individual diagnosed with autism by a licensed physician or a licensed psychologist who determines the care to be medically necessary. Coverage includes: diagnosis, habilitative or rehabilitative care, pharmacy care, psychiatric care, psychological care, therapeutic care, and ABA. The bill also calls for the Washington . . .
