January 29, 2008 President George W. Bush created the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives (FBCI) in 2001, to support the efforts of faith-based and community groups to address social problems. The Office of FBCI provides technical assistance to groups that had previously been ineligible to bid on government human service contracts. Centers for FBCI have been established at 11 federal agencies, to strengthen partnerships with grassroots organizations and implementing the FBCI vision within their agency's human service programs.
