August 13, 2008 The Texas Youth Commission spent approximately $281.8 million in 2008; this most recent budget proposal requests $249.1 million for 2010 and $253.8 million for 2011. The agency is working with elected officials to ensure that it will remain able to deliver effective treatment to the youth in its care. It has proposed reducing its institutional capacity and and increasing the number of programs in rural areas, and a plan to close more facilities is also under consideration . . .
