February 13, 2008 This lawsuit was brought by child advocacy group Children's Rights against the Oklahoma Department of Human Services for alleged abuse of children in the state foster care system. Among the charges against the Department are a shortage of foster homes, overcrowded and dangerous emergency shelters, and frequent moves among multiple homes and facilities. The lawsuit names 9 children in particular, but is on behalf of the 10,000 children currently in the state's foster care system . . .
