May 23, 2008 This lawsuit was filed against Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) by a family seeking coverage for early intervention autism therapy. The lawsuit became a class action and on June 19, 2009, BCBSM settled with the plaintiffs. The settlement will reimburse about 100 families covered by BCBSM who incurred costs for autism treatment that were submitted to BCBSM for which coverage was denied on the grounds that the treatment, applied behavioral analysis, was experimental . . .
