June 2009 The Arizona Office of the Auditor Generals reviewed investigation information on 147 reports alleging child abuse and neglect in group homes and shelters received in 2007 and 2008 using information from the state's Children's Information Library and Data Source (CHILDS). The auditors found that only 15 of the 147 CPS investigations were closed within the required 45 days. Additionally, for 20 of 23 investigations investigators did not begin documenting the investigations in CHILDS until after the deadline lapsed. In 15 of the 23 investigations, three months lapsed before investigators began documenting the cases . . .
