August 14, 2008 The 2006 Treatment Episode Data Set (TEDS) provides demographic characteristics and reasons for admission for substance abuse treatment at facilities that receive some public funding. The federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration reviewed the 2006 TEDS to assess geographic variations in admissions and evaluate demographic differences including referrals and access to health insurance. About 22% of all admissions for substance abuse treatment were for young adults between the ages of 18 and 25 in 2006; however, in the Northeast and Midwest the majority of admissions (61% and 52% respectively) were for repeat treatment, but readmissions . . .
