CMS Home Health Pay-for-Performance Demonstration Presentation
October 2007 The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced plans for a home health pay-for-performance demonstration to begin January 1, 2008. CMS will begin soliciting home health agencies for the project this fall. The demonstration will operate for two years in seven states: Alabama, California, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, and Tennessee. The pay-for-performance outcome measures will be drawn from CMS' existing Outcome-Based Quality Improvement data set. They focus on the incidence of acute care hospitalization and emergency care, and on improvements in bathing, ambulation, transferring, surgical wound status, and oral medication management.
