December 2007 The research was conducted by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to respond to a request from U.S. Senator Ron Wyden to identify examples of programs that provide key components of end-of-life care. From June 2005 to August 2007, GAO reviewed studies by the Institute of Medicine and the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.
