April 2003 Ensuring a Competent, Caring Healthcare Workforce for Louisiana In December of 2002, 22 nursing students received their diplomas from a hospital-based program in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. While the commencement speaker praised the graduates of the Baton Rouge General Hospital Program for their accomplishments, he had a message of greater importance. He wanted the graduates and the audience to know the very real impact these graduates would have not in glowing general terms of care and kindness but in the reality of numbers.
