On January 12, 2015, advocates for a group of children in South Carolina foster care sued the state to force the Department of Social Services (DSS) to increase the number of foster homes, decrease caseworkers caseloads, and ensure that children in foster care receive timely medical, dental, and mental health assessments and periodic screening.
