Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities Notice To Legislature About Closure Of Montgomery & Youngstown Developmental Centers

On February 20, 2015, the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) announced plans to close two of the state’s 10 Developmental Centers by June 30, 2017; the plan affects the Montgomery Developmental Center and Youngstown Developmental Center. Over the past eight years, the number of Developmental Center residents has dropped by 40%, from 1,600 in 2007 to 900 by the end of 2014. The DODD projects that the Developmental Center census will continue to decrease by about 90 people each year . . .
