A Spotlight On Maine HCBS Waivers
Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Waivers allow states that participate in Medicaid, known as MaineCare in Maine, to develop creative alternatives for individuals who would otherwise require care in a nursing facility or hospital. As recently as 2011, MaineCare’s 1915 (c) waiver for Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) for people with Intellectual Disabilities/Developmental Disabilities (ID/DD) ranks as the third most expensive state in the nation – spending was $86,657 per person, compared to a $45,463 per person national average (see <a href="https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q . . .
