Douglas County, Nebraska Comprehensive Juvenile Services Plan 2009-2011

January 13, 2009 Douglas County, Nebraska recently launched the Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI) that will enable the county to provide community-based alternatives for juvenile offenders to avoid incarceration. The goal is to reduce the average daily population count at the Douglas County Youth Center from about 129 today to fewer than 40. Additionally, the initiative is expected cost the county less than its previous way of handling juvenile offenders. The initiative is funded by a five-year grant from the Nebraska Crime Commission.
