California Senate Bill 843 Of 2016, With Public Safety Provisions Including The Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion Pilot Program, Prison Renovations
On June 27, 2016, the California governor approved Senate Bill Number 843 to grant a defendant six peremptory challenges in a criminal case if the offense charged is punishable with a maximum term of imprisonment of one year or less. The bill would also reduce the number of peremptory challenges that may be exercised separately by a defendant who is jointly tried from four to two in cases in which the maximum term of imprisonment is one year or less . . .
