Department Of Justice Office Of Inspector General: Review Of The Federal Bureau Of Prisons’ Monitoring Of Contract Prisons
In this report released on August 11, 2016, the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) for the U.S. Department of Justice reviewed the federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) monitoring of its 14 prisons operated under contracts with three private companies. All but one of the prisons hold non-citizen immigrants convicted of federal crimes, most are incarcerated for illegally returning to the United States after being deported. The OIG analyzed data from the 14 contract prisons operational during fiscal years 2011 through 2014, and compared them to 14 BOP-run institutions with comparable inmate populations.
