On October 17, 2016, the American Health Care Association (AHCA), a trade organization for the long-term care industry, sued the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). AHCA is seeking to cancel a new rule that says nursing homes participating in Medicare and Medicaid cannot force incoming residents to give up their right to sue if a care dispute arises.
