On November 15, 2016, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development issued part 1 of this 2016 annual homeless assessment report (AHAR) to Congress. The report provides point-in-time homeless estimates on a single night (counts are conducted in late January); an estimate of the number of people experiencing homelessness within particular populations including households without children, families with children, and veterans experiencing homelessness; demographic characteristics for all people experiencing homelessness; and counts of beds in emergency shelters, transitional housing programs, safe havens, rapid rehousing programs, permanent supportive housing programs, and other permanent housing programs . . .
