Consumer Watchdog V. Anthem Blue Cross

On October 31, 2016, the California Superior Court released this class action complaint against Anthem Blue Cross in California (Anthem). The complaint alleges that Anthem failed to adequately warn consumers that they were being shifted to more expensive, stripped-down EPO plans in 2017 which do not cover out-of-network costs currently covered by their PPO plans.  The new plans may result in much larger medical bills for previously-covered services.

The consumer watchdog group claims that Anthem violated both federal and state laws by breaching its insurance contracts with its 2016 members by failing to provide “guaranteed renewal . . .
