Prevalence & Spending Associated With Patients Who Have A Behavioral Health Disorder & Other Conditions
On December 20, 2016, Health Affairs published this article about spending associated with those who have behavioral health disorders, by the number of coexisting physical disorders, among noninstitutionalized adults.
Research determined that 85 percent of spending was attributed to treatment of those with two simultaneous disorders. Only 15 percent was attributed to treatments of the behavioral disorders; of these, 57% had a primary diagnosis of depression, making it the most common disorder treated. Research further determined the potential to improve outcomes and reduce spending by applying collaborative care models more broadly . . .
