On February 15, 2017, the federal Department of Health and Human Services (DHS) National Center of Health Statistics (NCHS) released this data brief on emergency department (ED) visits for injury and illness among adults aged 65 and over for 2012–2013. The brief analyzed nationally representative data from the National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey (NHAMCS) to describe and compare characteristics of ED visits resulting from injury and illness in older patients.
