Matis Settlement With New York State Attorney General

On March 23, 2017, the New York Office of the Attorney General announced a settlement with Matis, developers of the My Baby’s Beat–Baby Heart Monitor app. The Settlements come after investigating the efficacy claims and privacy practices of this app, and places five requirements on the app providers:

Clearly state that their app is not for medical use;
Stop collecting certain user information, such as device identifiers;
Obtain consent from users to collect and share sensitive information;
Inform users that data collected by an app may not be protected under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA . . .
