Youth With Autism: Federal Agencies Should Take Additional Action To Support Transition-Age Youth
In May, 2017, the federal Government Accountability Office (GAO)Â released this report regarding transition-age youth with autism and needed support from federal agencies. In the report GAO made three recommendations to federal agencies, including one to examine the merits and implications of amending the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) to require earlier transition planning, one to enhance collaboration with non-members of the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee (IACC) with member agencies, and one to develop a long-term implementation plan that includes milestones and specific agency roles and assignments . . .
