Illinois’ Department Of Children & Family Services Director Steps Down Amidst Controversy

The Director of Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), George Sheldon, will step down, effective June 15, 2017. The decision comes after Mr. Sheldon became involved in controversial issues. Mr. Sheldon is currently the subject of an inspector general's ethics probe, facing allegations that a top Cook County aide misused her authority, and is also facing backlash after four DCFS investigations failed to find issues in the home of now-deceased 16-month-old Semaj Crosby.
