United States’ Civil Rights Investigation Of The Orleans Parish Prison System, Update To 2009 Findings Letter

On April 23, 2012, the Federal Department of Justice Civil Rights Division (CRD) released this letter to the Orleans Parish Sheriff and the Sheriff's Office attorney regarding CRD's investigation of the Orleans Parish prison system as an update to 2009 findings. The letter states that issues found in 2009 have not been addressed, and urges the Sheriff's Office to immediately implement changes to remedy these issues.

Issues include:

Inadequate protection from violence and sexual assault,
Inadequate suicide prevention
Inadequate mental health care and access to medical care, and
Inadequate services to limited English-proficient inmates . . .
