California Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation Detailed Long-Range Plan to Improve Prison Mental Health Services
November 6, 2009 The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) was required to file a detailed long-range plan, including activation schedules, to increase mental health treatment and housing capacity. The filing is in response to a September 24, 2009, court order in Coleman v. Schwarzenegger, a class action lawsuit protesting the lack of adequate mental health care in CDCR facilities. This long-range plan projects treatment capacity needs through 2013 based on projections made in the spring of 2009.
