Washington County, Maryland Starting Needle Program To Aid With Opioid Crisis

The Washington County Health Department will be launching a medication-assisted treatment program to help combat the opioid epidemic. A new syringe disposal program has already been implemented, as well, in an effort to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

These programs, which are part of an overall harm-reduction program for the county, come in response to high opioid overdose rates in recent years. Overdoses remain high as dangerous pain killers such as fentanyl and carfentanil are mixed in with heroin, making the drug even more deadly.
