Care New England To Close Memorial Hospital

Care New England (CNE) recently announced that it will close Memorial Hospital after Prime Healthcare Foundation’s purchase of the hospital fell through. Comments from CNE officials have referenced the hospital’s low inpatient census as one of the reasons for operating losses in recent years. CNE is expected to meet later this fall with Partners Healthcare to negotiate a possible merger. It is anticipated that the closing of the hospital - which represents a $23 million operating loss thus far for fiscal year 2017 – could assist CNE in closing an acquisition deal.
