California Assembly Bill 1308 Of 2017: Youth Offender Parole Process Expansion

On October 11, 2017, the governor of California approved this bill. The legislation expands the youth offender parole process for persons sentenced to lengthy prison terms for crimes committed before age 23 to include those 25 or younger. The bill requires the Board of Parole to complete all youth offender parole hearings for those with indeterminate life sentences who become considered by January 1, 2020. The Board of Parole is required to complete all youth offender parole hearings for those eligible for review of parole suitability by January 1, 2022 . . .
