New Louisville Program Offers ‘Living Room’ As Alternative To Jail For People With Mental Illness

The Living New Program is a new Louisville, Kentucky-based program that is directing consumers with mental illness to a facility –rather than a jail - where they can receive care. Centerstone, who is behind the tax-funded program, predicts it will serve about two dozen people on a daily basis. The project pilot was launched on December 10.

“The living room” is a calm and quiet space where those visiting have voluntary access to services such as housing, counseling, and health care. It is anticipated that the program will create savings of between $70 to upwards of $1000 a day . . .
