This memo was issued on January 4, 2018, by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). The Attorney General rescinded previous guidance documents on federal marijuana enforcement policy and directed federal prosecutors to use previously established principles. The previous guidelines had signaled that the DOJ would allow states to permit use of marijuana for medical or recreational purposes, and that federal prosecutors would not pursue individuals in possession of marijuana who are complying with laws in those states . . .
