Maine Bill LD 1231: An Act Regarding Mental Health Care For Maine Veterans

The legislation was signed into law in August 2017. It authorizes a two-year pilot program that will require all the state's hospitals to determine the veteran or active military status of everyone who seeks care in an emergency department, with a focus on those who present with psychiatric crisis. The hospitals will report the data to the state Department of Health and Human Services bi-annually. The goal is to better understand veterans' mental health needs . . .
