Minnesota Office of the Legislative Auditor Evaluation Report: Civil Commitment of Sex Offenders
March 15, 2010 In March 2011, Minnesota Office of the Legislative Auditor released a report on civil commitment of sex offenders. The report found that Minnesotas civil commitment costs of holding convicted sex offenders deemed too dangerous to release after serving their sentences nearly tripled between 2004 and 2010, from $20.4 million to $58.8 million. The number of civilly committed individuals in the Minnesota Sex Offender Program (MSOP) has also increased, from 149 in 2000 to 575 in 2010.
