Representing the Mentally Ill Offender: An Evaluation of Advocacy Alternatives
April 1, 2010 Mental health courts (MHC) and mental health public defenders (MHPD) offices both helped reduce recidivism rates for 18 months among Texans with mental illness involved in the criminal justice system. Both programs increased mental health treatment contact for participants for six months after disposition. Both recidivism and conviction rates were lower. Download the Report . . .
