Autism Spectrum Disorder “Fever Effect” Pilot Study Enrollment Begins
AVACEN Medical, Inc. (AVACEN) recently announced it is enrolling subjects into its new pilot study on autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) “fever effect.” The “fever effect” refers to how some children with ASD perform better in some interpersonal areas when they have a fever—they are more social, alert, and/or talkative.
The study—which will involve children ages 6 to 16—will guard against bias by being double placebo-controlled. Specifically, the pilot study will use the AVACEN 100—an FDA-cleared dry heat therapy device that is able to simulate low severity fevers—to infuse heat into the children . . .
