UnitedHealth Buys Genoa Healthcare
UnitedHealth Group Inc. (UnitedHealth) recently announced it is acquiring Genoa Healthcare (Genoa), the fifth largest pharmacy chain in the United States. The acquisition will serve to be quite significant for UnitedHealth, as it will add Genoa’s 435 pharmacy locations to the health system, as well as its telepsychiatry services and medication management.
UnitedHealth’s OptumRx will absorb Genoa’s services, a move which UnitedHealth anticipates will help better support the pharmacy needs of consumers with mental health and addiction disorders. OptumRX is Optum’s pharmacy benefit manager, available through UnitedHealthcare membership.
