Performance Audit Child Protective Services Investigations, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services

The audit was released in September 2018 by the Michigan Office of the Auditor General (OAG). The auditor’s office reviewed the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services child protective services (CPS) performance from May 1, 2014, through July 31, 2016. During this period, MDHHS CPS workers conducted 206,000 abuse and neglect investigations. The auditors selected a random sample of 160 completed investigations for review. The auditors also surveyed 1,680 CPS workers and supervisors, and received 990 responses.
