Los Angeles County Jail Reform Amendment To Settlement Agreement

The settlement amendment agreement was signed on December 6, 2018. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) and the federal Department of Justice amended their 2015 settlement agreement to expand the scope of reentry services for LASD inmates with mental or cognitive disorders. LASD agreed to provide all newly discharged offenders with mental illness or dementia with discharge services, even after a stay of less than a week, to include 14-day supply of medication and connections to services. The goal is to reduce the risk that these individuals will become homeless by promptly connecting them to services . . .
