Mercy To Close Kansas Hospital, Affecting 327 Jobs

St. Louis, Missouri-based Our Mercy (Mercy) health system recently closed its Fort Scott, Kansas hospital. As of December 31, 2018, the 46-bed facility has officially been shut down, ceasing operations.

Mercy cited declining patient volume and decreased reimbursement as primary reasons for its decision to close the hospital. In a statement on Mercy’s Facebook page, the health system also cited challenges in recruiting and retaining clinical professionals. The hospital’s 327 employees were laid off as a result of the closing, although some may be transferring to other Mercy facilities.
