July 20, 2010 The National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering announced the availability of grant funding for specialized bioengineering partnerships. A project proposed by General Electric Global Research and the Mayo Clinic was awarded a five-year $5.7 million grant to research design and application issues involved in the use of a head-only MRI brain scanner for neurological and psychiatric disorders. A head-only MRI has the potential to be used in diagnosis and treatment of both neurological and psychiatric disorders, such as stroke, Alzheimers disease, Parkinsons disease, traumatic brain injury, depression, or autism.
