Establishing and Maintaining Medicaid Eligibility Upon Release from Public Institutions

August 23, 2010 The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) contracted with Mathematica Policy Research, Inc., to work with Oklahoma to develop, implement, and evaluate a program to ensure that eligible individuals with mental illness were enrolled in Medicaid when discharged from state institutions. In 2007, Oklahoma implemented a new program to help inmates complete disability and Medicaid applications. Oklahoma gathered detailed information on Medicaid enrollment status to determine if a similar program would benefit institutions for mental diseases.
