Oregon Youth Authority Letter about Budget Reductions
September 9, 2010 On September 9, 2010, the Oregon Youth Authority (OYA) announced plans to reduce capacity and staff to cut its budget by $7.7 million. To meet its targeted reduction, OYA has planned to release 275 to 325 of the approximately 2,000 youth in custody and lay off about 200 employees. All 275 to 325 beds are close custody, and these youth will be placed under the supervision of OYA Juvenile Parole and Probation Officers in the community.
