October 25, 2010 The New York State Insurance Department recently informed health insurers in the state that they must accept and process all health care claims with Evaluation and Management codes submitted by psychiatrists. The plans are not permitted to limit the types of Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes that they accept to those specifically designated as ‘psychiatric’ in the American Medical Association’s CPT codes reporting guidelines and conventions.
