Arizona Letter to House Speaker John Boehner About Medicaid

December 17, 2010 In this letter, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer described how the state's Medicaid program, with a more generous eligibility provision than required by federal rules, has affected the state's budget. Nearly 20% of the state's population is covered by Medicaid, consuming 30% of the state's 2011 budget. The state faces an estimated budget shortfall of $600 to $825 million for the 2010-2011 fiscal year and a shortfall of $1.2 billion for the 2011-2012 fiscal year. She asked that Congress eliminate the maintenance of effort mandate for the state Medicaid plan. Download . . .
