Questionable Billing for Medicare Outpatient Therapy Services (OEI-04-09-00540)
December 22, 2010 The federal Office of the Inspector General (OIG) for the Department of Health and Human Services audited Medicare outpatient therapy claims submitted in 2009. The analysis grouped claims by county. The OIG found that 35 counties had the highest average per-beneficiary claims for outpatient therapy in the nation. Of the 35, the OIG analyzed a subgroup of 20 counties that also had more than $1 million in Medicare outpatient therapy claims.
