February 10, 2011 In early February 2010, the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Housing and Urban Development released a benchmark analysis of the extent and nature of homelessness among veterans. The data revealed that on any given night in 2009, nearly 76,000 veterans were homeless and another 136,000 veterans spent the night in a homeless shelter.
