February 15, 2011 In 2008, Mercer County, New Jersey was selected to participate in a pilot Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI) with the state. JDAI works to reduce the number of low-risk youth held unnecessarily or inappropriately in secure juvenile detention facilities. JDAI works to redirect resources toward successful reform strategies, such as alternative community-based programs, and to improve the conditions of confinement in detention facilities for youth needing secure supervision.
