Washington State Department of Social & Health Services Answer to FPAWS Complaint About Foster Care Maintenance Rates
February 15, 2011 The Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) responded to a lawsuit filed by the Foster Parents Association of Washington State (FPAWS), which alleged that DSHS foster care maintenance rates were out of compliance with the federal Child Welfare Act. In its complaint, FPAWS said the state's foster care rates were insufficient to cover the costs of caring for a foster child and that DSHS had not adjusted rates since 2008.
