Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker’s Budget in Brief for 2012-2013
March 1, 2011 The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) is planning a variety of Medicaid changes to reduce spending by $500 million over the next biennium. The changes include new benefit plan designs for specific populations; higher co-payments, greater use of managed care for high-needs individuals to avoid avoidable complications and reduce unnecessary care. Provider incentives will be realigned to reward better outcomes; policies will be revised to improve Medicare/Medicaid coordination; and DHS will encourage and support self-direction of services.
