March 12, 2011 On April 1, 2011, West Virginia enacted a law requiring state-regulated health insurers to cover autism treatment services for children covered by plans issued or renewed January 1, 2012. The mandatory coverage is capped at $30,000 per year for the first three years of treatment for children as young as 18 months; coverage is limited to children diagnosed by age eight.
